- Purdue’s Hummel Out for Year With Torn ACL ✭
Zach Langdon of the Purdue Exponent:
Purdue confirmed Thursday afternoon junior forward Robbie Hummel will miss the remainder of the season after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament Wednesday night.
Despite the setback, assuming they don’t lose to Michigan State and can hold up during the Big Ten tournament, expect a number one seed.

Truck Dangles From Muncie Bridge
At first I thought this was hanging over the Lloyd, but it looks to be up in Muncie. Michael Bay is jealous he didn’t cause this.
- Woman Blames Drunkenness on ‘Fat Tuesday’ Party ✭
There were several strands of beads and decorative necklaces on the passenger seat.
- Evansville Social Media Club ✭
Josh Breslow reporting for Fox 7:
The Social Media Club is geared towards helping businesses and organizations help gain from that growth…More than 30 people came out to the Social Media Club’s first meeting. So far, the group has more than 50 followers on Twitter and more than 100 on Facebook, but Piazza expects the popularity will grow faster than you can tweet your own name. The group will meet on the third Monday of each month at Ri Ra.
I can’t think of a better way to spend my Monday night than with people who claim a goal in life is to get more followers on Facebook or Twitter.
- Local HD/Digital Channel Lists on Cable ✭
Jacob Newkirk, the local television columnist for the Evansville Courier & Press, has a comprehensive list of the HD channels available on basic cable services. It’s been invaluable to me over the past few days as I wait for my TiVo replacement to arrive.
- Stop Sign Totals the Mayor’s Car ✭
If you asked me to place a bet on what type of car Mayor Weinzapfel drove, a Pontiac Bonneville would not have even registered on the radar.

Evansville News: There’s a List for That
I’m an avid Twitter user. In my Courier & Press column this week, I will be talking about how I use Twitter for keeping track of mainstream news. As part of that, I mentioned two Twitter lists I use to keep track of what’s happening around Evansville. Lists is a new feature of Twitter that allows you to group Twitter accounts in any way you desire. You can create subgroups that contain your work colleagues, friends, or celebrities. As Twitter allows you to subscribe to other people’s lists, you can also follow the lists as well.
- Evansville News — Accounts for local news outlets and reporters.
- Evansville Food — Accounts for local restaurants.
If you find an account I’m missing or have other ideas for useful local lists, let me know in the comments.

Evansville Needs a Brand

The city of Philadelphia recently unveiled their new branding, which I am somewhat conflicted about. While it’s hard to argue that the Liberty Bell is a staple landmark for the city, it also feels like a cheap and easy solution to the branding problem. Despite that, it’s not a bad branding.
What does this have to do with our fair city? It got me wondering about what Evansville’s brand was. Where is our city logo? What is our city motto? I reached out to the Mayor’s office asking about this. In terms of of a slogan, we can look towards the Evansville Convention and Visitors Bureau’s slogan of:
Where the midwest meets.
Ew?
The slogan is pretty bad, but what about the logo?

It’s certainly official looking.
I understand Evansville isn’t the largest city in the state of Indiana, but I do think we can do better than a boring seal and a cheesy midwest-centric slogan. I’m not a designer or artist, so I’m hesitant to make any suggestions, but it seems like the kind of project that the city could get around. Or perhaps I am just wishfully thinking Evansville is bigger than it really is.
