Things have been somewhat quiet around here over the summer, but I couldn’t let a tradition die. It’s time to celebrate those brain sandwiches and creepy carnival workers. Yes, it’s time for Fall Festival Bingo!
Like previous years, the card includes a mix of Festival traditions, new items at the Festival, and some of the lesser advertised byproducts of the Nut Club’s annual event. While you’re at the Festival, carry around the Bingo card with you and mark each square you come across. When you hit bingo, come back here and tell us how and where you did it.
If you know someone who will be at the Fall Festival but who does not read this site, send him or her a link to this post or the PDF itself.
The Fall Festival begins next Monday October 5, so start plotting your bingo strategies.
The key is after the jump.

We made it back to the Fall Festival for lunch again today. I have to apologize for not trying too many outlandish things. Though, in my defense, I couldn’t find the deep fried dandelions anywhere!
I tried the Deep Fried Stuffed Olives that were stuffed with salsa and cheese. They were okay, a bit too cheesy–and that’s just something I never say, I love cheese. Examining my bite, it looked like olives had been diced and mixed in a Velveeta cheese and salsa mixture, breaded, and fried. It was pretty strong. I was picturing, and think it would have tasted much better if it was a whole black olive that was actually stuffed, breaded, and fried.
Deep Fried Olives: Booth 75, Vanderburgh Humane Society, $2.00
I also tried the Dirty Diaper based on a hungry reader’s suggestion. As it turns out, a Fall Festival “Dirty Diaper” could either be (a) a discarded dirty diaper, or (b) a pumpkin turnover. The pumpkin turn over was pretty good! It tasted a little like pumpkin pie, but slightly different due to the flakey turnover crust. I liked it though.
Dirty Diaper: Booth 55, Salem UMC, $2.00-3.00 (I forget)
Another thing I tried that was great was the Hot Tamale (they also have a chili cheese hot tamale which sounds intriguing). It may not have been traditionally prepared, but I thought it was really good. Soft cornmeal outside that somehow was almost creamy, with meat in the middle. Hot as hell!
Hot Tamale: Booth 47, Evansville Racing Pigeon Club, $1.50
Other things we tried (sometimes again) were a Pronto Pup, Chicken & Dumplings, Shrimp Creole (very good), Deep Fried Hot Dog, and chocolate covered banana–of course. And there is nothing but cold apple cider that’s worth washing it down with!

The Fall Festival is officially back, and I am too to bring you the Fall Festival Food Adventure! I have to admit, today my sister and I stuck to pretty basic stuff for the most part, but at the same time, I also found some pretty good stuff. Let’s have at it.
Last year I tried the Gumbo, this year it was the Crawfish Etoufee. I have to admit, I am a huge fan of it and was excited to see it. My eftoufee was packed with crawfish. That’s something you should expect, but unfortunately can sometimes be rare, so it was a pleasant surprise. It was served over rice in a nice sized cup, great portion for the price I think. Could’ve used a little more spice.
Crawfish Etoufee: Booth 23, German Township Booster, $4.00
Now, I know I tried this last year, but I couldn’t help but try it again. Of course, it was all in the name of journalism: Chicken & Dumplings. There are so many places that serve this, but I think the best booth is the booth that ONLY serves them. In my opinion, a long line should be proof something is good. Just like I remembered, they were delicious, my sister and I split a medium, which is now a dollar more than last year.
Chicken & Dumplings (my pick): Booth 18, Emanuel Lutheran Church, Small $3.00, Medium $6.00, Large $8.00.
I found a booth serving chocolate dipped bananas–something I’ve been craving after seeing it on tv. It was perfect–it was frozen, but the banana wasn’t rock hard, meaning it was still easily eaten. It really was a great treat and highly recommended.
Chocolate Covered Bananas: Booth 118, Evansville Jr. Football League, $2.50 (I think)
My sister and I also tried Chocolate Covered Bacon. I’ve heard great things about it on tv, but the way they did it just wasn’t good. The bacon was thick and chewy, almost like a jerky even. I would’ve preferred crispy, thinner bacon. However, the chocolate was thickly coated. It was too expensive for the amount and quality.
Chocolate Covered Bacon: I can’t find it on the map, but believe it was Booth 19 or 36 (I know it was on a corner), $6 for 4 pieces!?
Other staples eaten were a corn dog, walking taco, dirt & worms, and cider.
Please send in suggestions for next time we go–probably Wednesday! What do you want us to try?

It’s time for what will hopefully become an annual tradition for the Fall Festival in the same ilk as brain sandwiches and creepy carnival workers: Fall Festival Bingo!

While you’re at the Festival, carry around the Bingo card with you and mark each square you come across. When you hit bingo, come back here and tell us how and where you did it.
