Every Saturday night we like to round up the local crime stories from the previous few days and put a spotlight on the riff-raff of society. We call it Evansville 911.

  • Walnut and Kentucky were shut down for a bit of time on Thursday as police raided a local barber shop to grab a guy allegedly in posession of an assault rifle. The rifle, which was not recovered, was stolen from a home earlier in the day. There was also no word as to what type of rifle it was.
  • An Evansville fireman, Blaire Birge, was arrested this week for illegally obtaining prescription drugs. The EPD was following him for about two months and finally obtained a warrant to search his home. The fire department has put Birge on administrative leave with pay until the fire merit commission meets next week.
  • And for our weekly story involving meth in the tri-state, Velia Sedillo was arrested this week for alleged sale of about 55 grams of meth. Police recovered $50,000 worth of crystal methamphetamine from the safe Sedillo was renting.

Time for another rundown of whose been naughty in Evansville. There’s a common theme with this week’s criminals in that each story has something to do with a child. Maybe next week these perps can leave the kids out of it.

  • Milton Nelson was arrested on Friday for allegedly dealing marijuana near McGary Middle School.
  • Ronald Scott of Evansville was arrested for having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl. Chris Hansen is on the case.
  • Indiana leads the nation in child abuse related deaths with more than one child dying a week.
  • A mother locked her 14-year-old in a truck bed. Mother of the year claims its ok because she stopped and fed her periodically.

This is the third offense on the officer’s record. He had displinary actions against him for not reporting his location to dispatch and for breaking a department search policy.

Update 1: Story updated with photo of Officer Rainey. Fox7 is also reporting that Rainey will be in court tomorrow morning.

Evansville is a relatively safe town compared to others, but we don’t go without our own little crimes here and there. Evansville 911 will be a recurring features on the site where we’ll cover some of those crimes.

  • A man flipped his white Chevy Lumina on Akin and Taylor after leading cops on a chase around town. He was being pulled over on suspicion of a fictitious license plate.
  • Robert L. Henderson, accused of stabbing his wife &amp song as well as molesting a 13-year-old, has received plea bargain. In exchange for pleading guilty to charges of a Class B felony aggravated battery and one count of Class B felony child molesting he will only serve 30 years in prison.
  • Remember that attorney allegedly moonlighting as a meth head we told you about earlier this week? He’s out on bond, and subject to court ordered drug tests while he awaits trial.
  • Ryan Seaton had an busy Friday. He allegedly started his day by breaking into a home where he was confronted by the homeowner. He fled to another house where he stole a van. Apparently Seaton decided the van wasn’t hip enough, so he tried to trade it for another car unsuccessfully. Once the Vanderburgh Sherrif’s caught up with him, he tried to take one of their guns, but was bitten by a police dog. He’s now in jail.
