Listen To The Evansville Police Scanner On Ustream

When I’m working from home, I usually have my XM radio playing live, but if you’re into listening to police scanners, the Evansville Police Department’s scanner is now being streamed via Ustream. Ustream is a Web service that lets people do live streaming audio and video shows for others around the world.

The EPD scanner being online is nothing new. The Courier & Press has had it online for quite a while, but that requires Windows Media and as a Mac guy, that makes me feel gross inside.

Update: Looks like the scanner got taken down. Perhaps it was unauthorized?

Every now and then we check the Evansville police blotter and round up the local crime stories to put a spotlight on the riff-raff of society. We call it Evansville 911.

  • Melinda Lindauer was in court today after being arrested on preliminary charges of involuntary manslaughter. Lindauer was accused of shooting Evansville-native Nicole Stroud on Thanksgiving night accidently. Lindauer was really aiming for Stroud’s Shih Tzu.
  • Watch your back next time you hit the ATM. An Evansville woman was robbed at the ETFCU ATM on West Buena Vista this morning.
  • An Evansville man was attacked early Sunday morning in a bar by a group of skinheads at Bucks Tavern on Fulton Avenue. The men were shouting “White Power” and “Aryan Nation” during the attack. No curb stompings were reported.
  • Justin S. Steele, 21, and Michael A. Bristow, 22, went on a shooting spree with a paintball gun in Evansville Sunday night…allegedly. Paintballs were fired at three pedestrians on both Illinois and Governor street.

“Welcome to the Police State”

I don’t know how I missed this one, but the Courier & Press picked up on it. The video below is Indiana State Excise Police officer Ron McDonald yelling and cursing at a 29-year-old outside of Boney Junes. Ever had a run in with Ronald? Tell us in the comments.

  • The FBI recently released crime figures that show Evansville’s violent crime rate is up 13% from 2005 to 2006. The numbers jumped from 478 such cases in 2005 to 540 cases in 2006.

  • Richard Bryant of Evansville allegedly exposed himself at the Florida Tan Center on Washington Avenue Monday afternoon. Bryant walked behind the counter, fondled the worker and then whipped it out. He returned later that evening and was arrested. Bryant claims he was at the tan center to fill out a job application. Somehow, I don’t think his size is part of the application process.

  • Evansville police found 1.2 lbs of pot in a car during a police stop yesterday evening. No arrest has yet been made in the case. Not really sure why.

Cops Galore For Freedom Festival

While it’s not New Law Sunday just yet, the Evansville Police Department has announced that it will be increasing its patrols in time for the Freedom Festival’s start this Thursday.
As you would expect, EPD officers will be on the lookout for drunk drivers starting this Thursday and running up to the 4th of July holiday next weekend.

In addition to tracking the drunks, officers will also begin heavily enforcing the new seat belt laws that go into effect Sunday. The new seat belt laws require all passengers in a car to wear their seat belts no matter where they are seated. Those in truck-plated vehicles are also now required to buckle up.

In addition to the local increase in patrol, 200 state and local law enforcement agencies are planning sobriety checkpoints throughout Indiana. If you’re going to be plastered, don’t be a dope. Call a cab. Easy enough?

Evansville Seat Belt Checkpoint Tonight

While police officers aren’t required to, and often don’t, buckle their seat belt, they will be making sure that you fair citizens keep that belt around your waist this evening. The Evansville Police will be having a seat belt checkpoint tonight from 7 to 11 near South Green River Road and Covert Avenue. This is part of a statewide click it or ticket campaign.

These checkpoints will be a thing of the past come July 1 when the new seat belt law goes into effect. I say good riddance. Don’t the police have something better to do than pass out seat belt tickets?

Every Saturday night we like to round up the local crime stories from the previous few days and put a spotlight on the riff-raff of society. We call it Evansville 911.

  • Teresa Perry, a local attorney, was arrested at her law office Friday after she allegedly sold drugs and delivered methamphetamine to a police informant. Didn’t we just have an attorney selling drugs?
  • Remember Gordon Wayne Wright, who distributed flyers of his two ex-wives in the nude? He was arrested again for that act, but with new charges: distributing pornographic material to a minor.
  • More meth arrests. This time in Boonville.

Breaking: Bank Robbery On Main St

Details are sketchy at this point, but the Integra bank next to It’s Evansville’s world headquarters across from Turonis was robbed this morning. The suspect was already caught according to WFIE. The robbery happened around 9:15 this morning. Dispatchers say the suspect is a black male who tried to escape police by changing his shirt in a nearby alley. Police also found a discarded knife near Integra. Police chased the suspect on foot and caught him at the intersection of Main and Iowa streets.

Update: We have a photo of the suspected robber thanks to our friends at WFIE.

We shot some photos from the scene.

Dope of the Week: Gordan Wayne Wright

Let’s say you have an ex-wife or two. Now, let’s say you have some sexually explicit photos of each of them. Now, let’s say you want to extract revenge on your ex-wives for making your life a living hell. Obviously the solution to this problem is to spend countless hours making little packages containing the nude photos as well as their names, addresses and phone numbers and then litter them on lawns all over the West side.

That’s what one Evansville man allegedly did.

Husband of the year, Gordan Wayne Wright admitted to police that he did the dopey crime in order to get back at one of his ex-wives. Unfortunately for Wright, he faulted in two areas. First, it’s obviously a crime to distribute pornography on people’s front lawn. Second, he didn’t even have the correct address and phone number for his ex-wife: she had moved long ago.

Gordan Wayne Wright is facing two misdemeanor charges. One for distributing and exhibiting obscene material and the other for invasion of privacy.

  • A local teen wanted to go to the Tri-Fest in Henderson over the weekend, but when he got there he was arrested. The teen was offered a ride by someone whose kindness was returned with a knife to her throat as the teen stole her wallet. Kids these days.
  • A UE student was attacked on campus Thursday night. Police say a white male tried to force a female student into his car.
  • Seven murder cases are waiting to go to trial at the Vanderburgh County Courthouse.
  • The Evansville police officer accused earlier this month of stealing money from a drug suspect is set to go to trial June 27.
