New WOW HD Channels Coming December 18
Just saw this posted up on DSLReports. The highlight for me would be the NFL Network moving to the standard HD lineup, but you might also be interested in some of the other channels.
- ABC Family HD on channel 864
- Disney Channel HD on channel 865
- NFL Network will be moving from the HD Pak to the HD lineup on WOW! Digital Basic Cable and remain on channel 821.
Still no word on NFL Network games actually being shown on WOW sadly. The new channels are definitely geared towards the younger demo, and WOW’s lineup is still far behind what Insight is planning to offer in the coming weeks/months.

Wow will still suck.
I had insight, with 20M internet, HD and DVR. I bought my parents house, who have WOW, and there is an overlap where they are still there until there house is done. So I have got to compare the 2. No comparison. Wow’s HD channel lineup is anemic compared to insight. Sometimes the HD channels don’t work at all. Pixelization is bad. And the SD channels look worse than insights. The onscreen navigation is better imho on insight. I do think WOW’s dvr is better. And the pip is nice also, although I barely use it. Internet is a wash right now because I am on wireless until I can get the modem installed where I want. Also the installation on the back of the house is so bad, you can’t even close the box. Can’t wait to get insight back.

CableCards + TiVo Series3 is how you survive WOW. I wouldn’t use their DVR if you paid me.
I cannot, for the life of me, get the PIP to work on my HD DVR from Insight. Never been able to get it to function.
I like that Wow has the channel logos in the guide, really helpful. Insight’s DVR they use is terrible if you ask me- constantly lags behind what you click the remote to do.
Insight is missing some premium channels from showtime and cinemax that WOW has, which is unfortunate…but the HD situation – Insight hands down (same goes for their massive ondemand library compared to Wow’s tiny offering).
My name links to a review of the two cable companies.
if i remember correctly, the pip feature on insight’s dvr is just a button on the remote.. serving the same function as your appendix.
but, i appreciate that there is cable company overlap in this city.. or at least there was 5 years ago. it allows for some real competition. i just wonder if people realize that they might actually have an option!
by the way.. at&t announced that they were starting the largest fiber project in the state here in evansville. while, at first, it’s going to be just for city/county use.. to replace the copper. but, one can only assume that the city/county can’t use all the fiber that at&t will be rolling out.. and it could only translate into uverse. (uverse=iptv/fttp)
When I got insights DVD they told me the pip feature dos not work.
I finally figured out that the PIP button is there but not activated. Stupid. Wow has a PIP feature on their box, and I used it all the time. Unfortunately, WOW has 1/100th of the choice Insight has, so it sort of has to balance out in the end.
Just let me know when Verizon rolls in with Fios. :)
