Election 2008 Live Blog

After two years of campaigning, the time is now. Today is the day that we finally elect the next president of the United States. Who will it be? The scrappy, young Senator from Chicago or the grizzled war hero from Arizona. Polls put Obama up by around 8%, but don’t discount people’s ability to
accidently fall on that white button when they get in the voting booth.
At this point I don’t really care who wins. Both candidates are flawed, but neither is flawed enough that it’s going to doom us. I just hope it actually ends today (cough2000cough).
I’ll be checking in via the comments on the thread all day and would love for you to share your photos and commentaries from the polling places you are visiting.
Happy Election Day!
10:00AM: How is the Starbucks line? They have amended their free coffee promotion to giving anyone a free cup after the legality of the promo was questioned. Silly.
10:25AM: In preparation for this evening’s festivities, I’ve added MSNBC’s tracking widget.
11:05PM: Warrick County was too cheap to buy “I Voted” stickers. Sigh.
5:44PM: Early results from Kentucky and Indiana are coming in. Obama has a slight Indiana lead, but is getting blown out in Kentucky.
6:00PM: Obama gets Vermont. McCain gets Kentucky.
7:13PM: My Man Mitch has won a second term as Indiana governor.
7:36PM: 103-43 Obama with 14 states in.
8:00PM: Ellsworth wins according to the AP. No story yet.
8:25PM: MSNBC projects Ohio to Obama. He’s closing in on 200.
8:36PM: Despite early totals ABC has put Indiana in the blue column
10:00PM: Game Over
1:10PM: Indiana is a blue state

My dad, sister, and I are going to vote at 6am, bright and early.
They are voting McCain :( But I’m Obama all the way! Obama-lama-rama!
Hope Indiana goes blue tomorrow–for once!
I just hope that a clear winner is determined tonight and that it doesn’t drag out for days or weeks (like 2000). My wife and I voted early for Obama after months of being undecided. I think a little change will do us all some good. Anyway, we had to wait in line for nearly an hour last Wednesday at the Ohio Township Central Library in Newburgh. But it went fairly smooth with very little drama. Like I said, let’s just hope that whoever wins does so tonight in convincing fashion. I don’t think we can take another 2000-like debacle.
I just got done voting. The whole process from time pulling in to the time pulling out was less than thirty minutes.
I was reading yesterday that 49% of our registered voters (Sarasota County, Florida) had already voted. Most elections are lucky to see a 49% turnout period.
i am still undecided..ill take some pictures with my new camera though
Cast my vote at Newburgh health care on Pollack. No lines. No hassle. In and out in 5 minutes.
Don’t forget voters get free Starbucks.
On my way back from voting, I saw this setup at the corner of the Lloyd and Burkhardt. Honk For Ellsworth. They got quite a few honks.
I was up at 8:30, and home by 9:30. My local district was very smooth, and the line wasn’t too long. I Baracked My Vote!! Obama ‘08!
Anyone voted in Newburgh? Curious what the wait is like. I can’t go until I get off at 5.
@leah: My Newburgh precinct was a quick in & out. Not sure about the other ones, however. I think if you head there between now and 3PM there won’t be too much of a line.
Yeah, mine is at the church on 261. I wish I could go earlier, but I work in Eville and don’t get off until 5, bummer. I’m prepared to wait in line if I have to. Thanks for the fast info!
So my dad, sister, & I did indeed all go early. We vote at Methodist Temple (2-13). We got in line (about 50 deep) at 5:45am! And by 6 am when the doors opened there were at least 50-75 more behind us. When I left at 6:30ish, there was still a line down the block.
Dad and sister voted McCain :’(
(tho I’m holding out hope my sister secretly voted Obama)
and I voted Obama baby!!!!!
Haven’t seen the lines there since then, but I’ll drive by to check them out later today (its at the end of my street)
I didn’t have to wait in any lines today–Yay for early voting :)
No line for me…..went to St. Boniface school gym at 1:00, pulled right up, walked right in there was no one else voting til I started to vote….I figure the polls will be the busiest when people get off work. I was really surprised to be able to just walk right in. GO OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I voted at 7:30 this morning at Lodge School, and there was no line at all. I suspect that this evening will be a different story, and there will be a lot of people who get turned away because they don’t get there in time.
Check out this video from Philly. Fox News is promoting it which makes me think they may be blowing it out of proportion, but the video is still someone disturbing.
And here is the actual clip from fox news (Thanks TVNewser)
Voted today at 11:30 at Methodist Temple on Lincoln Ave. It took about an hour which was cool, it was crowded. It was a little frustrating having the guy behind me constantly whine and moan about it taking too long. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry when he turned to his wife and said “Oh stop it, just vote for the name you like best.”
Election day is like iPhone day, but without the iPhones.
“I was up at 8:30, and home by 9:30. I Baracked My Vote!! Obama ‘08!”
Spoken like a true Democrat. Up at 8:30 and back at home by 9:30. Share the wealth, bring on Socialism.
Wow, it took all day to have our first snippy comment. You people disappoint me. I was hoping for far more of a trainwreck.
regarding the videos…. Wow. That’s all I have to say.
Looks like Vanderburgh County is going Obama. Warrick has not reported any results yet.
That’s from the New York Times, which is being far more conservative on calling states.
Thanks to the Courier & Press for these live video streams.

From the election coverage earlier, here’s the new CNN Hologram
is anyone else refusing to go to bed until they officially call indiana?
I’m still up, but I don’t know how much longer I can last.
BLUE STATE
Now, I need some sleep.
Christine–I refused to sleep until they called it, I’m so glad they did!
(1) OBAMA! Sooooo happy he is President (elect)!!!
(2) Sooooooooo happy Indiana flipped blue! I can officially say I’m now proud of my state! Blue!
(3) Oh so proud to be in one of the few Democratic counties in Indiana–nice one Vanderburgh!
what the soviet union couldnt do in 50 years we did in one election.

Is that the date Obama gets re-elected?
:-)
no
i believe he/she is making hints at accepted socialism.
If you’ve ever accepted a Pell Grant or cashed your stimulus check, then you’ve “accepted socialism”. The “socialist” and “Marxist” scare tactics are getting old. No need to fret, democracy/capitalism is alive and well. :-)
Shows what you know. You think we live in a Democracy. We don’t and we never have. Though term for what we live in now is nowhere near what the founders envisioned.
I don’t see how the scare tactics are getting old. For one, with the new President, it’s not like he’s the first to introduce some of these ideas. Some are new, but our Liberties and freedoms dwindle each year and they are going to continue to dwindle even more with this new administration.
If you want to know why socialism is bad and why alot of the socialist programs we have don’t work. Take sometime to find out.

They were saying the same things about Bill Clinton in 1992. Oh, he’s a socialist. Oh, he’s a scary liberal. Well, you know what, we survived the 90’s and his two terms and the same thing will happen this go around. There will be rumors about Obama and false accusations made of him, but we will all survive and life will go on.
You could say McCain is a fascist too. Sacrifice for the good of the state, calling for all brances of the government to be subserviant to the Defense Deptartment, but I KNOW he’s NOT a fascist. It would just be some silly, hateful FUD spread around about another candidate.
I wonder if, in that picture, he’s praying one of the racist anti-american prayers he learned in his 20 years weekly attending his “black liberation theology” church with “God damn America!” Rev Wright who claimed the “white” govt created HIV to kill blacks or that we deserved 9/11.
Nice job America…Way to reach into your skulls, turn your brains off, and elect the most radical candidate in our 232 year history. Oh, and don’t forget the whole letting babies die slow agonizing deaths in a closet after botched abortions idea this guy is so keen on. (Sigh)
