Hoosiers for the Hot Chick

While there is no limit to the goofiness (and apparent alcoholism) of delegates at both the Republican and Democratic national conventions, I think Indiana earns wins the award for best accessory. Delegates from the Hoosier state were donning Hoosiers for the Hot Chick buttons in reference to the hot mom look that Sarah Palin has. I’m working on finding a picture of a delegate with the button.
I’m sure this will start yet another sexism debate in our overly sensitive society, but let’s face it. It’s certainly better than that cornball, cowboy hats in the air, chant of “drill baby, drill” from last night.
What’d you think of the RNC (or DNC)?

The DNC was basically a freak show, and the RNC is basically a tent revival. God help us all…

I’ve tried to avoid most of it, but I tuned into Palan last night just out of curiosity. I find both conventions to be week long kool-aid drinking sessions for the respective bases.

I wish everyone would shut the eff up about her looks and take a look at the issues.
She is a hyper-conservative gun nut who preaches abstinence but has a knocked-up daughter. She is the freaking Kool Aid idiots.
Go ahead, fall for her crap, I am glad to see the fine folks of evansville vote with their eyes and not their minds.
…I swear she has horns under that horrible 1990’s hair of hers.

The nomination of Sarah Palin is basically an insult. I suppose the ‘publicans think stupid voters deserve a stupid veep nominee.
And to the people with the “Hoosiers for the Hot Chick” buttons or whatever…seriously? After the 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling gambit of Hillary Clinton, you’re going to advocate voting for a woman because she is “Hot”? Do you know what sexism is?
Jesus the ‘publicans are a trainwreck of a poorly told joke that misses the point. Ugh.

@Rachel How is this any different than the attention Obama gets for being the first “Black” Presidential nomination or the first potential “Black” President?
I’m sorry to say but your,”…vote with their eyes and not their minds,” quote can be applied to a much larger voting demographic than the one you are referring to with Sarah Palin.
And if issues are what you want people to look at and physical looks are something you want people to put aside. Then why do you reference looks to close your post? Thought they didn’t matter.

@Opeth: I expect the same from my female political candidates as I do my male…a nice suit and a good haircut.
As I told Justin in my previous post, I was referring to the Hoosiers for Hot Chicks buttons. That is an embarrassment to our political system and 4 steps back for women everywhere.
@Brian: Don’t get so worked up? This is a big election and a pivotal time in our history. While you are getting mad at the price of an iPhone and the line at Starbucks I am getting upset about something that really matters…the state of OUR country.
I ashamed to be a Hoosier today because of those misogynistic buttons.

Gun nut? Because she is pro 2nd Amendment? It’s people like you that deserve to have their home invaded or to be carjacked just to see how defenseless you are. Meanwhile, my family and I will sleep soundly knowing we have at least some protection from the bad guys. I guess I’m a “gun nut” too. OUTLAW GUNS AND ONLY OUTLAWS WILL HAVE GUNS. One piece of advise. If you are so ashamed…leave!! And don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

I totally agree, Rachel. It should be a slap in the face of all women that the Republicans think they will sway what once were Hillary voters by including a woman with zero experience, and lack of intelligence, for that matter. That is like saying “all women are the same”. And God help us (lol) Dobson is endorsing her. Here come the right wing evangelicals…
Rachel
September 05, 2008 @ 08:22AM
@Mark: People like me deserve to have our homes invaded and cars stolen? That is hateful, unkind and not very christian like. You are sick.
People like you deserve a hug and to have your television turned off. The world is not as scary as you would like to think it is.
Have your guns, lock them up tight…most school shooters and kids who commit suicide get those guns from their parents.
Val
September 05, 2008 @ 08:57AM
Rachel, you forgot that robberies where shootings actually occur are due to the victim pulling a gun on the robber. I am pro 2nd amendment, though I do not own guns. It is a constitutional right, and I am a constitutionalist. However, there is absolutely no reason for gang members in Detroit to be able to legally get assault riffles. I find most of those that are all about their guns don’t have to deal with crime on a daily basis and are simply hunters. You definitely got the fear part right…
Jenna

@ Rachel: “not very Christian like”—if you are so concerned about politics….religion is not supposed to be in politics, and clearly this is somewhat of a political debate
Okay, basically, we aren’t saying vote for her bc she’s woman or vote for her bc she’s attractive….THE BUTTONS WERE FUCKING FUNNY. Take a chill pill. If you are ashamed to be a Hoosier, move to Kentucky.

Wow, this thread is a piece of work.
I am not going to direct my comments at anyone because that just leads to ad hominem arguments, and attacks the person and not the issue.
For me: I don’t like the buttons because I don’t really think the concept is funny and I don’t really care for how it makes Hoosiers look. Simple as that, but wear em if you want, whatever…
The fact that the Delegates from Indiana are wearing them is where I find an issue. It is not wise for them to claim that people have attacked her with sexist arguments and slander because of her gender, only to objectify her with a button to show “Support.”
This not only paints their party in an unfavorable light, but invoking the word “Hoosier” makes all of us look stupid. That is my problem.
That is all…
Rachel

There is nothing funny about those buttons. Are you sure you don’t live in Kentucky?
Nick
September 05, 2008 @ 10:35AM
My former post has not shown up yet… but I found two more cents in my pocket to post here.
Remember what I said about not directing an argument at a person, forget it.
Wishing physical harm upon someone because you disagree with them about something shows weakness of mind and spirit. It gives away your lack of ability to use your brain to make a legitimate point and frankly is disgusting.
I can certainly see how a mind that would resort to such childlike behavior would find comfort in gun ownership. Not so that the weapon can protect them from evil doers, but so that it can protect them from their own crippled egos.

Quote from Val “It should be a slap in the face of all women that the Republicans think they will sway what once were Hillary voters by including a woman with zero experience, and lack of intelligence, for that matter.”
One, show me one piece of data that backs up your assumption, that the Republicans are using her because she is a woman. What you are doing is no different than the Hoosier ladies wearing those buttons. You are taking a clearly qualified person and then looking at their demographic as the reason for the nomination.
Second, you then go on to take a jab at the fact you “believe” she has no experience. I believe you are throwing around words again without really thinking about what you are posting.
Sarah Palin
Served two terms as Wasilla mayor and two terms on city council.
Alaska governor since December 2006
Chairwoman of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, 2003-2004
Brokered a competitive deal with Big Oil to bring Natural Gas to the lower 48.
That’s just a start. And way to throw in “lack of intelligence.” You clearly have nothing on her so you reduce your post to trying to degrade her.

Rachel: I hate to break it to you, but the world IS a scary place. Scarier than you realize. It’s people like you with this mindset that all is fine and dandy in the world. You let your guard down and then BAM!! - A terrorist flies a plane into a building, or someone tries to rob you, or some other violent crime that happens every day, every hour, happens. I will take my chances with some protection, so don’t ask anyone for help when it happens to you or someone you care about. I guess you are content waiting the 10 minutes or more for the cops to show up. Well not me.
And also, I don’t go to church and never claimed to be a good Christian. Hugs don’t stop violence, but a .45 cal. sure does.

Did I say something wrong?
Matt Metcalf
September 05, 2008 @ 11:09AM
@Mark: Shooting somebody with a .45 cal does not “stop violence.” That’s pretty much the definition of violence. And don’t start trying to give us any crap about how if everybody had guns there would be no violence. Ever take a good look at the Middle East?
The fact is that handguns are designed for one purpose and one purpose only, and that is to kill human beings. I’m all for allowing people the right to bear arms, but let’s be realistic about it. The Founding Fathers were not trying to make sure that psychopaths could have automatic weapons. The 2nd Amendment says:
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
It makes it very clear that the purpose of the right to bear arms is for a “well regulated” militia to defend the State (nation). Not so that you can shoot people who break into your house, or who have something you want, or who disrespect you.

Opeth: First of all, have you heard the woman speak? Second of all being town mayor and having a bachelor’s in journalism does not qualify one for VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. From the qualifications you have listed I am OVER QUALIFIED for said position.
Quote:
So unconventional was McCain’s choice that it left students of the presidency literally “stunned,” in the words of Joel Goldstein, a St. Louis University law professor and scholar of the vice presidency. “Being governor of a small state for less than two years is not consistent with the normal criteria for determining who’s of presidential caliber,” said Goldstein.

Big Steve, correct, but Did I ever say that she hadn’t left the city of Wasilla in debt? No, I never mentioned any type of budget. Never even brought budgets up.I simply stated what Political Offices she has held. Did I ever state I was for Palin and the Republican ticket? No, but one must assume your Kool-Aid comment is suggesting that I’m for the Republican ticket. I was simply stating the inaccuracies with Val’s post. If you must know, since you assume I’m a Kool-Aid drinker, at this time I will not be voting for either Obama or McCain. Since the Libertarian party better represents my views and my beliefs, I think I’ll go that route. Good try though and good luck trying to make that case with the State Budget.
And Val, wow. You’re a real piece of work. You are over qualified to be the VP of the United States? So you’ve been the Mayor of a town, a GOVERNOR of a STATE, negotiated with Big Oil Companies, and worked with a 10 Billion dollar budget? It’s funny you failed to mention some of those resume boosters in your comment. If you were, congratulations and more power to you. And your quote is amazing too. Let me make this clear to Mr. Goldstein and all liberals who may come across this. Sarah Palin is not running for the Presidency! Not only that, but when did you ever hear anyone criticize Howard Dean’s resume when he ran for Dem ticket? Never. And he was the Governor of Vermont. Yes, Vermont. A state with less population and no where near the economic capabilities of Alaska. And he was the front runner till his famous blow up. I find it hard to believe positions that actually require her to make decisions that affect her town or her state are now being discredited by you and the media because it’s Alaska. And 2 years is also being looked down upon? Thats shows more leadership than 143 days and 130 votes for present. And those last stats are for a man that actually is running for the PRESIDENCY, not the VP.

Justin,
At least politics increase readership!!!
Everyone needs to lighten up. Seriously, No one will ever revoke the 2nd amendment and shes just as qualified as “qualified” as Obama. That still doesn’t make me want to vote for her. Qualifications help, but don’t provide a full picture of a candidate.
If all of you would focus your energy on something useful……

Please understand this comment is not directed at anyone. I just wanted to present a fact that I uncovered while doing my own research on the candidates.
Gov. Palin and her husband were married on August 29, 1988. Her first child, Track is only 19 this year. Now, I first discovered this while reading about her on Wikipedia where the article clearly had Track’s birthdate listed as April 20, 1989. I know that Wikipedia, can be unreliable at times, but that information was sited. I just discovered that information was removed from the article.
http://celebgalz.com/track-palin-birthday-sarah-palins-son-conceived-out-of-wedlock/
It really doesn’t matter to me one way or the other. I just find it a bit amusing that it is information that is now being covered up.
