USI has a long way to go…moving into the job world with say a business degree from this school you are very limited outside the evansville area. most people wont even take the interview. there are so many issues with this school in regards to staffing, curriculum, classrooms and parking. I think the school needs to increase admission standards to keep out people who fail out after the first semester to make room for people who do want to succeed, id like to see the numbers. I was a student there during summer classes because the curriculum is a joke compared to other state school such as IU Purdue etc. All i experienced was headache after headache, parking is a joke, that schould be issue numbe 1. i think you should start a thread that allows users to discuss concerns and issues with USI.

Maybe they won’t take the interview because of your inability to use punctuation.

I have a degree from USI, and am proud to say that my degree has opened doors for me in Indianapolis. On a side note, I get tired of people complaining about the parking at USI. If you think parking at USI is tough, try spending some time at any of the other state universities in Indiana. I shudder to think how horribly one would react to those schools if they think USI’s parking is a challenge.

Oh, and nice picture! It is crazy how fast USI is changing!

If you’ve ever been to Purdue (which I doubt you have, especially for anything academically related), you would know that parking there is a nightmare compared to USI, yet they are often mistaken to be an ivy league school by those outside of the mid west.

A school does not need to make parking “issue numbe 1″. The focus needs to be directed towards improving facilities, which will attract higher quality professors, which will improve program ratings, which will attract more students, which brings more money to the university to improve facilities & expand. Do you see the snowball rolling here? I’m not saying that’s everything you need to do to increase enrollment and improve the reputation for a university, but it’s going to do a lot more than having a luxurious parking lot.

I am guessing that the grammar in your cover letters and resumes is remotely similar to your post – no wonder you can’t get any interviews. Simple things like spell check “schould” help you out in life and actually get you some interviews. Most companies don’t base interviews on what school you went to – they look at your extracurricular activities, whether you have graduated, and slightly at your GPA and major. You sell yourself in the interview, not where you went to school.

  6. Parking permits at Purdue are like the holy grail. Viva A permit!

My punctuation has nothing to do with my statements, i dont really care . USI is a suitcase campus with about 5% of students living on campus. IU Purdue all have dorms large enough to accomodate 100% of all freshman. USI needs to realize more than half the people who go to the school drive, there is nothing to do on campus besides leave right after class, the campus is a joke, the student center is a joke, the athletic facilities are a joke, the administration is a joke, they high half educated union workers who dont care about the well being of the students.

  8. em says:

IU’s freshman classes are around 9000 students.

  9. Jenna says:

Oh man, IU parking is just like Purdue, I was lucky enough to have a D permit for 2 years. But never the ever ellusive C, or even more special and ellusive A. Senior year I spent a lot of time in visitor and paid parking spots–so many quarters used (but better than the tickets)

I will say that USI’s parking right now is ruff. They are using a great number of parking spots for construction equipment. Without the equipment parking was never a problem, you just had to walk a little.

As a former USI student I would like to say that I completely disagree with your statements. USI has not developed into a Purdue or an IU, no one can disagree with that. However, USI is what you make out of it. Many of my peers from USI were heavily involved, had a great time, met tons of friends, and got a good education. I believe that is the exact definition of what a good school is.

USI does not have the student base to have a HUGE amount of housing. I worked in housing for my whole time at USI, and I can tell you that they are working on expanding. Also, the housing at USI is much better than what is offered at other state schools. The housing department has been working to expand the services they offer by building a new C-store/community center, which is a great addition to the campus.

I’m puzzled by not having anything to do. I know that a good majority of the time there is always something going on somewhere on campus. Sure, sometimes it may not interest you, now. But give something new a try.

USI is exactly what you make of it. If you want to try, then you will succeed. If you just go through the motions, then you probably wont enjoy it. I have my gripes about USI, but I had a great experience and I wish more people would put more effort into expanding their educational experience.
