Starbucks Vivanno Coming Tuesday

Comments | Add A Comment

It’s Evansville HQ was run out of the Starbucks in front of the mall a few months. I liked getting out of the house and appreciated the reliable, fast Internet. No, I didn’t mind the $30 a month fee since it kept the real leaches out.

Even with the benefits of working at Starbucks, I went back into hiding after I grew tired of drinking heavy frappucinnos every afternoon. I’m not a coffee person and their tannins in Tazo Tea are an invitation to a bad afternoon.

This Tuesday, your favorite corporate coffee shop is introducing a new set of drinks called Vivanno. 147xxx, a blogging barrista wrote about it:

They’re blended like a frappuccino, BUT NOT LIKE A FRAPPUCCINO AT ALL because they aren’t going to clog your arteries. According to the information partners got about it, Starbucks wanted to “purposefully build a drink that is nutritious. Whereas our Frappuccino® Blended Beverages offer our customers an indulgent treat.“ AKA people ordering a venti extra extra carmel extra whip carmel frappuccino everyday have grossed us the fuck out. Grossed us out so much that we decided to just create another genre of starbucks beverages. Or atleast thats what I think sparked this vivanno revolution.

The Vivanno will be offered in two blends: Orange Mango Banana Blend and Banana Chocolate Blend. These aren’t exactly the Jamba Juice fruit smoothies I have grown to love out west, but it’s a start. Each drink has protein powder, milk and a full banana in it and is only served in grande size.

I love bananas, but not chocolate (don’t worry, I eat it, its just not ever my first choice, haha, crazy as it sounds) So while I wouldn’t love it as a drink, give me a bananas dipped with chocolate and coated with crushed nuts and you have me sold. I love fruit drinks though and orange/mango/banana are some of my favorites so yes please for the drink!

I’m happy to report that I have had both a day before they were due to come out. The starbuckers nutrition website reads as if they are a meal replacement (270 cal 21 g protein, 44g carb, 5 fat) They aren’t horrible, however they are not great. The banana flavor sticks out of both of them like a ssorore thumb. And the bittersweet chocolate is pretty bland. They’ve incorperated protein and wheatgrass powder (I think). (I give it a 2.5 out of 5. I’ll probably have one again when I need a healthy meal solution.

sorry to steal your thunder with an early review!

They put a whole freaking banana in the thing. It’s obviously going to stick out. :)

What I really want is a Jamba Juice on the east side. I’d settle for a Smoothie King, but Jamba is awesome.

I’ve now tried both and have come to an official verdict.

The Banana Mango one is really good.

The chocolate banana one tastes like the old protein shakes I used to drink when I was trying to gain weight. blech.
