UE to Play North Carolina

UE is scheduled to play North Carolina three times over the next four years. The 2010-2011 game will take place in Evansville. This is exciting news because I now have another reason to loathe Tyler Hansbrough’s existence. The first game will take place in Chapel Hill on December 18. Since UNC and Duke take up most of the ESPN college basketball schedule, the odds of this game being on TV are pretty high.
I remember the glory days of UE basketball. I wasn’t but a wee little lad with a bad hairdo and glasses, but I always had fun going to Aces games and watching those Jim Crews teams. I have hopes that Marty Simmons can bring some of that allure back to Roberts Stadium.
Even if UE isn’t an MVC contender every year, I think playing exciting non-conference games against major conference foes is a step in the right direction. It puts the team on the national map, and there’s always the chance of an upset. Who wouldn’t love seeing Marty and friends being the lead on Sportscenter?
So how does Roy Williams feel about his North Carolina team? Let’s ask him.
