East Side Review: Greek’s Pizzeria

Comments | Add A Comment

You may have noticed the new pizza place on South Green River, just past the Lloyd. We certainly did, especially since it is an extension of the one at Indiana University, which I must say I failed to ever visit. I may have missed it in Bloomington, but I decided not to here, and we took a group over to Greek’s Pizzeria.

The outside is plain with very little decoration, and the inside is actually the same. The tables and booths are all covered with the “traditional” red and white checkered table cloth that you think of pizzerias having. But that’s pretty much the extent of the decoration. There is a side room with a couple video games in it and a jukebox near the cash register. The restaurant is in some definite need of some type of character, even if it is some pictures on the wall.

Greek’s Pizzeria focuses on pizza, but also has a large choice in pasta or sandwiches. We choose to order cheese bread, a medium Greek’s Special, extra large half cheese and half pepperoni and sausage, and an Italian Sausage sandwich. The cheese bread was served with marinara sauce. It was okay, but nothing special and probably not anything I couldn’t make at home, though I must say the marinara sauce was great. The pizza came out with a thick crust, lots of sauce, a little cheese, and a fair amount of toppings. I usually don’t like much sauce on my pizza, but Greek’s sauce made it worth it. The pizza’s dough is sweet and soft as opposed to tough, which most in our party appreciated.

My favorite was the pepperoni and sausage. The Greek’s Special was okay, but some of the toppings (ie. peppers and mushrooms) seemed of poor quality and not what you’d normally find on a pizza. The sandwich (basically a stromboli) was only average and has got nothing on the strombolis from Pizza King. Other options include the Gourmet Wings pizza or Cordon Bleu ala Rafael pizza, Chicken Marinara sandwich, or Spaghetti with Meatballs.

There are daily lunch and dinner specials to choose from: the medium Greek’s Special was that day’s dinner special. To be honest, there is very little price difference, but all the same, the prices for Greek’s as a whole are fairly reasonable. Also, the service was not great, the waitresses all disappeared for at least 20 minutes as we were needing a knife and refills. Overall, I enjoyed the pizza. While I wouldn’t go back to eat in the restaurant, I would definitely get delivery, and their free delivery is a plus.

Greek’s Pizzeria is located at 240 S. Green River Road in the old Batteries Plus building. (814) 402-4733. Sun-Fri 10am-10pm, Sat 10am-12am.

I just have to say I have dined at Greeks on numerous occassions since their opening in FEB, and like any new restaurants they are constantly improving daily! I absolutely love the white pizza, by far the best I’ve had, and the Greek salad so everyone try them out! I have had nothing but the freshest toppings and have no complaints on the food ever! Also, in the last week the exterior has greatly improved.. the owner, Kory Hurless and General Manager, Jaime Price who are friends of mine and are usually always there, have built flower beds, repainted and is in the process of building an outside deck for dining. Kory is very giving and has helped not only me, my friends, and my co-workers but also the community! As for the service, in every restaurant you have the good and the mediocre so sorry you didn’t get the full experience and please try GREEKS out again! They are also open Sunday and have 99 cent draft beer on Monday and Tuesday! Thank you for the review I know there are many restaurants to choose from and i’m sure Jaime and Kory appreciate your patronage deeply!

Sorry, I meant to type Sunday but I’m so used to typing Mon-Thurs or Fri for reviews that I made that mistake. We’ll fix it! And thanks for pointing out the 99c draft beer…I totally should have put that in there, so thanks!

We have eaten at Greek’s several times and have been really impressed with the food and the service. Finally, a pizza place where you actaully see the managers and they truly care about your experience. I must say the free delivery comes in handy with gas prices on the rise. I would highly encourage anyone looking for a great meal, or just a cool draft like the previous post mentioned to head to Greeks and enjoy great food, great prices and great service.

Does a one “thumps” up rating mean less than a two “thumps” up?

What is a thump?

I like Greek’s! It’s a nice alternative to what I like to call “Evansville Style” pizza. Don’t get me wrong, I love the pizza at places like Turoni’s, Roca Bar, and Deerhead, but Greek’s does offer a different style and flavor. I’m not usually too big on lots of sauce and thicker crust, but I do like their pizza sauce and slightly thicker crust.

lindsay, well…we ordered cheese bread instead of breadsticks for our appetizer….thus, I have no picture of breadsticks.

Greek’s has been located in Muncie, IN just on the edge of Ball State Univ. for years. Their recent expansion elsewhere in the state is great because returning home to Eville and trying to explain how great Greek’s is does them no justice. They definitely have a unique flare to their sauce. I haven’t eaten at this new location but if it’s anything like what I’m use to, everyone should give it a shot. High recommendation.

Pizza trivia… John Schnatter (aka Papa John’s) first worked at Greek’s while going to school at BSU. Obviously he found his calling…

If you like spicy food, you should try the Wings pizza. It’s chicken pieces in a spicy sauce. It was recommended to me by the manager as one of their specialties and he was right! It’s my favorite!

I’ve been three times with my wife and we’ve loved it every time. They’re very friendly and the food is so good. It reminds me of the kind of pizza I used to get when I lived in Pittsburgh. Also try they’re cinnamon sticks, they’re awesome!

Justin and I went back tonight, on the 4th at about 8:30, and it was pretty busy even at that time and on a holiday!

From the outside I immediately noticed some new decorations, like the flower boxes filled with (I think) pansies. Definitely a good touch. The inside has definitely come along a lot too, pictures, a nice Greeks sign surrounded by a “wine box” decoration, and sconces near the door. Really is looking nice. He said they were planning on putting in a wrap around porch with a awning to sit under. Each week, he said, they try to add another thing to the restaurant.

Again we ordered a 1/2 cheese, 1/2 sausage/pepperoni :-X But it was delicious…you know how sometimes you can’t seem to break out of something so good, even though you really want to try something new? (I really want to try that Gourmet Wings Pizza….but just remembered how good that cheese and pepperoni/sausage was—so I couldn’t help it!)

We also ordered the breadsticks…mmmm my goodness. They came out so hot, and super buttery-garlicy with the great sweet marinara on the side. Then, as a little perk, Kory the owner, offered us some free cinnamon sticks since they had extra at the end of the night. They came out super long and twisted, doughy, and drenched in a buttery cinnamon mixture—and I say drenched in the best way possible. Justin couldn’t stop.

Greeks really seems to be coming along now, so far it seems like everyone that tries it loves it, and people are glad they now have a local college town favorite. So keep supporting it and telling your friends.

Greeks is not only a horrible place to eat, it’s a horrible place to work. I started when they first opened- this is no place special. They hire illegal mexicans. They fired me and replaced me with a guy they could pay minimum wage. On top of that, they obviously needed the money so bad they never gave me my last paycheck. I asked for them to send it to me..they refused saying ” you wouldn’t want it anyway, it’s only a couple of dollars. We’ve deducted a couple of things” meaning the FREE uniform and apron. adding up to 76.32 .. but they’ll have their day in court. BTW, The next time you go in there, look at the face of the manager JAIMIE. He is the hugest dopefiend i’ve ever had to work for. Just watch that jaw go! And that STUTTER! God..How unprofessional is it..to have someone come up to your table and take 30 minutes to ask you if you’ve enjoyed it.
The waitresses disapeared to go smoke a crack stem or a foil. ::;blinks::: f*** greeks
