Music Spotlight: Stationary Odyssey

It’s Evansville is starting a new recurring feature that will spotlight local and regional musicians that are playing shows around Evansville. If you are a local musician, contact It’s Evansville editor Justin Williams to schedule your profile.
What’s the name of your band and what’s the origin of it?
Stationary Odyssey. Like most of our songs titles, etc, it was just blurted out of someone’s mouth. Wasn’t originally intended as a band name.
How long have you been together?
Since 2002.
Who is in the band and what instruments do they play?
Aaron Tanner - bass, additional instrumentation
Brett Siler - guitar, additional instrumentation
Jesse Gallamore - drums, guitar
How did you get together?
It originally started out as a solo side-project and expanded from there.
What type of music do you prefer playing?
Instrumental rock for weird dudes.
What bands do you most sound like?
We get compared to Godspeed or Mogwai a lot… but don’t really fit that mold so well.
Where is the best place to play in town and why?
Probably 1123.
What is your favorite song to play live? Why?
“My Baby Is Black” is a lot of fun. So is “Nobody Does It Better.” They’re two of the higher energy songs we have.
Whose your favorite local band (besides your own)?
Kentucky Prophet.
What are your musical aspirations?
I think we’ve more or less achieved what we’re after.
Where can we see you play around town?
1123, Lanhuck’s, Duck Inn or Boney June’s. We don’t play in town all that often though.
