Thanksgiving Volunteer Opportunities

Thanksgiving is about food and family, but it’s also about thinking about others who may not be as well off as you. Turkey and football don’t start until the early afternoon, which leaves you with ample time to give back to the community. Here’s a few opportunities.

Goodwill Industries is organizing the 18th Annual Old National Thanksgiving Day Run/Walk, with all proceeds to benefit the Goodwill Family Center. Goodwill needs 25 to 30 volunteers on the race day of November 22 from 8 am to 10:30 am to hold sign to directs runners and walkers and help remove barricades at the end of the race. The Tri-State Food Bank is holding a Ham and Turkey drive at all Schnucks locations today until 8PM. The food bank has volunteers passing out fliers to encourage people to purchase a ham or turkey. The food bank will distribute the ham and turkey to families in need. For more information, contact Sara or John at 425-0775.

Studio Bee in Boonville needs volunteers to deliver holiday food to families on Thursday, November 22 from 11 am to 1 pm. Contact 897-5378 if you can help out.

If you’d like to serve a meal to someone in need on Thanksgiving, there are a few opportunities for that:

• Evansville Rescue Mission – Thursday meal times at 11:45 am and 5:30 pm, Contact 421-3800 to help.
• United Caring Shelter – Thursday meal times 12 pm and 5 pm, Contact 422-0297 to volunteer.
• Dream Center – Media Ministries – Wednesday Thanksgiving dinner at 5:30PM. Contact 401-5558 to offer your help.
