The Weekend Hangover Wrapup

Comments | Add A Comment

Now that the weekend is past us, let’s do a bit of cleanup on what you might have missed.

The general consensus is that this year’s Fall Festival was a success. Not only is the festival a fun time for everyone in the town and an excuse to eat a lot of weird fried food, but it also brings a boom to the businesses along Franklin St. One 13-year-old was screwed out of a few hundred bucks by a carny. He worked a booth all week under a verbal agreement with the carny that he’d get $200 at the end of the week. In the end, he received $35.

The Evansville Half Marathon looks to be a success. The race had 1889 runners with all but 263 finishing the race. Unfortunately, the marathon in Chicago wasn’t as successful. The race was called midway through as 1 man died and over 300 more were treated at area hospitals or medical stations. The temperatures were the highest in the marathons history.

On the sports side of things, Notre Dame got its first win in a shocker over UCLA. Whether they’ll get another win remains to be seen. Purdue, unfortunately, lost to Ohio State Saturday night. I had hopes for a better game, but when you mix Purdue’s offensive struggles with how good Ohio State is, there really wasn’t much hope. Also on the winning side, Indiana defeated Minnesota. Indiana is now one game away from being bowl eligible this year. The Hoosiers haven’t played in the post season since 1993.

On the pro side of sports, the Colts won despite having about half the time on the injury list. Joseph Addai was successfully replaced with Kenton Keith who ran all over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Colts are off next week.

And in your obligatory Evansville perv news of the week, the guy who was trolling open houses preying on female realtors is now behind bars. Sheriffs arrested 38-year-old Bradley C. Wright. It’s hard enough to sell a house without having to worry about your safety at an open house.

The story about the 13-year-old makes me wonder: What parent would allow their 13-year-old to work for a week for travelling carnival folks?
