In Other News…

We haven’t wrapped up the news in a few days. Let’s see what’s on the agenda.
- Police considered their extra patrols around Labor Day to be a success. EPD officials made 28 arrests for impaired driving during the blitz. I personally find it hypocritical to increase patrols for DUIs solely around a holiday weekend. If it’s so important to keep drunk drivers off the street, they’d keep those patrols at all times. The patrolling over Labor Day bordered on harassment.
- President Bush led U.S. troops into Iraq, and he should lead them out, Rep. Brad Ellsworth said Tuesday. Ellsworth says he won’t vote to cut off the money to the troops.
- The city is thinking about taking part of Hamilton Golf Course and turning it into soccer fields.
- Don’t look for the McCurdy building to be renovated anytime soon. The building’s sale has yet to officially go through and construction is now set to begin sometime well into 2008.
- And for some fun in Uniontown, KY, Judy Hagan is in a legal battle over having a headstone placed on the cemetery plot where she buried her dog 8 years ago. Residents of Uniontown call the stone vulgar, and are enraged that it is located in the center circle of the cemetery, sharing the space with only a veterans memorial flag pole. What’s the stone say? In Memory of Shithead

Justin, I respectably disagree with you about the EPD extra patrols. Police departments around the country beef-up patrols and set up additional DUI check points around the holidays because more people are off of work and are on the streets. History has shown that more people drink and drive during the holidays, hence the reason for the ‘extra patrols’.

Did they ever decide what to do with the Greyhound building? I’ve always thought it would be a PERFECT diner. Like a kick ass NYC diner. I think it looks perfect for it

I heard that they want to move the diner to main st., across from the courts bldg.
Then there will be a full, empty square block for the next super wal-mart.
