East Side Review: Nagasaki Inn

Nagasaki Inn is well known throughout Evansville as being one of the top Japanese restaurants in town, complete with the hibachi grill, sushi, and other entrees such as various noodle dishes or katsu.
Previously, the restaurant was located in a strip near the mall next to Maxine’s Bakery & Café and Get Wet. Several years ago, Nagasaki moved to their new location off Virgina Street where they styled in beautiful, full Japanese style with a touch of modern here and there. They even have wooden bridges over a small stream filled with carp. Past the entry, there are three areas—one reserved for the hibachi grills, another with the sushi bar and tables for entrees, and finally private rooms.
I almost always go for the hibachi dinners, but the sushi and regular meals are excellent all the same. The Sushi is average, but are gorgeously prepared. For sushi in Evansville, I prefer Wasabi’s/Jayas.
Tonight, it was about hibachi. These dinners are large, so be prepared to stuff yourself or take home leftovers. Rarely does anyone get appetizers or dessert with it. Each meal comes with a salad and onion soup. The dinner includes your choice of meat, white or fried rice, cabbage or bean sprouts and sautéed vegetables. The chef cooks it all in front of you while performing little tricks like the volcano and fire so you get entertainment while you eat. Who doesn’t love the japanese eggroll?
While this is my favorite way to eat at Nagasaki, the area for ordering non-hibachi dinners is often packed. Do you want a sushi or box combination dinner? Sit here. You can also get sukiyaki, domburimono, or shioyaki in all various flavors. Also a treat is sitting at the sushi bar and watching the sushi chef prepare your sushi.
If you live in Evansville, are a fan of Asian cuisine and haven’t been here before, I encourage you to go. You’ll love it, and if you have room after all that food, be sure to try the green tea ice cream— it is delicious!

NAGASAKI IS THE BOMB! I SUGGEST IT TO EVERYONE. EVEN IF YOU THINK YOU DON T LIKE THAT TYPE OF FOOD JUST AS I THOUGHT, THINK AGAIN. VERY GOOD STUFF.

Isn’t Wasabi closed?
Nagasaki is good but I like Kanpai better. It doesn’t have the atmosphere that Nagasaki has, but in my opinion the sushi is better and it’s less expensive too!

Yeah, Wasabi closed a few months ago, but they moved their operation into Jaya’s. They have the best Sushi in Evansville. Sadly, nothing compares to Sushi Wabi in Chicago. mmm

I love Nagasaki, but Wasabi has the best sushi, Kanpai is definitely the 2nd best and quite delicious, even tho the atmosphere is totally lacking

i liked wasabi, but i had never waited longer for sushi and my table was the only one there. i don’t mind waiting for my meal, but it was reallllllllly ridiculous.
and as for nagasaki, goes the lobster roll and thai roll are fabulous.

MY name is Natalie, and im in the sixth grade. In the fourth grade my grade went to this place for a field trip(we have wow week once a week and each year our grade gets a different state to study, and that year we got to experence the Japanese coulture) and we were lucky enough to go to Nagasaki. It was a great experience! Every thing was perfect, exept for the fact that some of the toilets in the restroom(woman’s)were clogged. Most people experienced diareha(which was nasty because there was about 60 or so kids there, not to mention about 10 parents and 2 teachers!! :( NASTY!

Two thumbs down way >:O
The last few times I gave Nagasaki a shot, it took forever even to get acknowledged by our waitress and even longer just to get a glass of water. The sushi is good, but not good enough to justify the horrible, horrible service. Jayas and Zuki are great (not to mention Zuki also offers Hibachi dinners) and Iwataya isn’t too bad either … with much better options to choose from in town, I don’t plan on ever going back to Nagasaki.
