East Side Review: Honey Baked Ham Cafe

To me, Honey Baked Ham Cafe, located by Rafferties and JC Pennies Home store, is an often overlooked staple. It’s not something that usually jumps out out when you are thinking of where to go for lunch. I’ve been eating there since I was young, rather it was a sandwich at lunch, or a ham for Thanksgiving—they do both, and lots more.
Inside is simple: a few tables for eat-in customers, a counter for lunch orders, a counter for large orders (ie. spiral cut hams, turkeys, etc), and refrigerators for dishes like green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, cinnamon apples, and various pies and cakes.
I created my own boxed lunch, which you do by filling out a form by the register. However, they also have sandwiches on the menu you can order by name, like the Smoke Stacker, Bacon Turkey Blitz, or Ham & Turkey Bella. I had a ham sandwich on a croissant, with a side of tomato-cucumber salad, a peanut butter cookie, and diet coke. You can also order anything individually, but I think the boxed lunch is the way to go. All of that was approximately $7.00. You may or may not find that a little
pricey for a sandwich lunch, but keep in mind, everything is made in house and they put it together by hand. If you decide you want to buy a turkey or ham, that can range from $15 to $40 depending on the size and cut. Well worth it!
Quick and efficient, I have found it to be consistently good food, worth every penny.
