North Side Review: BBQ Shack

For a change of pace, we headed out to the north side of town to try out The BBQ Shack. The BBQ Shack is located next to Evansville favorite, Jacob’s Pub. Like most great restaurants, the outside of the Shack doesn’t look like much, but once you get inside and have a seat, you’re in for a treat.
The tables are decorated in checkered tablecloths that give the restaurant an picnic feel to it. On each table you’ll immediately notice the six sauces. BBQ Shack offers a sauce for all kind of BBQ fans — Original Blend, Kansas City Style, Tennessee Style, Carolina Mustard, Spicy and Fire.
I ordered a pulled pork sandwich and sampled the original blend, tennessee and fire sauces. Fire is delicious, but it is one of the spiciest sauces I have ever had. I’m not sure I could take an entire plate of it. The original blend had a vinegar flavor to it that I didn’t like. The Tennessee sauce, however, was tremendous. It had the perfect amount of sweetness to complement the meat on my plate.
In addition to the big pile of meat you get for just $5, you get to pick one side. The Shack offers all the sides you’ve come to expect from any BBQ restaurant — potato salad, cole slaw, corn on the cob, onion rings, fries, green beans, BBQ Baked Beans and more. I had the macaroni and cheese. Very good.
I can without a doubt say that this is my new favorite BBQ restaurant in Evansville. I don’t think it’ going to take the spot of Moonlite as my all-time favorite, but I’m looking forward to my next trip to the north side. We’ve also heard the Shack is also opening a store at the old Dairy Queen in Newburgh. If its as good as the original, everyone in Newburgh will have a new dining destination.
The BBQ Shack is opened Monday to Saturday 11AM to 9PM and Sunday from 11AM to 8PM. Call 812-401-8227 for more information.

We’re located on the North side of town and Stepo’s BBQ Shack is by far the best BBQ in the area! They have the best pulled pork plate dinners (shack-size of-course) for the money! Their sweet tea is SWEET too. And, when we go we can always expect to see our favorite waitress and get greeted with the best possible service.

I’m so glad you checked it out. It is the best kept secret in town for sure!

I honestly wasn’t very impressed when we went. The service was horrid and I didn’t enjoy the food. My husband enjoyed his pulled pork, but I didn’t enjoy my meal. We may try it again to give it a second chance, but based on last time, it wasn’t worth it.

The BBQ Barn on Diamond is my favorite place here in town, personally. Always great food and great service.
