Breaking: Fire in Downtown Evansville

7

There’s a rather large fire blazing downtown right now at an abandoned apartment building on Third and Court.

Channel 14 has live video and photos. Check it out.

Update: Fire is out. Courier & Press has photos. We did an In Focus piece on the building that burnt a few weeks ago.

Is that Sesame Street? Shame. That was a neat building before it got that boarded-up, condemned look. I had my first Breathalyzer there. lol

  2. I’m not sure. I don’t have my camera with me today, so I wasn’t able to drive around and see. I’ll check it out on the way home.

Sesame Street, AKA that alley behind Pearl Laundry? :)

We spent far too much time watching the smoke and flames from the fire today…we’re on the second floor and right in view of the buildings, so that helped.

I’m still sad about my buildings

Sorry guys don’t wanna be a buzz kill but…I don’t know much bout the “building” but what I do know, “Sesame Street” is notorious for being a “DRUG” house. Do we really need another one in this city? Not saying I’m a Saint by any means but there won’t be a love loss here. When we walk out of work @ night time & you see the cops removing ppl that shouldn’t be in there nightly there is a problem. If the owners of that building didn’t take action when the drugs were ran in & out of there, or boarding up so that no one can enter without a key the proper way the blame is on them. I’m sorry for anyone that sustained a loss but, someone needed to step up to the plate and take responsibility. It really stinks that it ended like this. The city of Evansville is a safer place.

No, if it were a drug house and is gone, I mean that’s a good loss.

But those could have been renovated beautifully into really nice apartments/lofts–and I would’ve jumped at that opportunity! I wish they had done that before they got to this point…
