Open Thread: Summer Movie Season

The summer movie season has already begun with massive movie releases like Pirates 3 and Spiderman 3, but let’s talk about what movies you are most looking forward to seeing this summer. Even though I am not a fan of the sequel culture that the mainstream movie experience has become, I can’t lie and say I’m not looking forward to Oceans 13.
Use this open thread to talk about the movies!

I saw Shrek 3 over the weekend and was totally disappointed. I really liked the first one, and the second was okay. But the third was awful! I want to see Ocean’s 13 and the Hip Hop Project. I love Bruce Willis and think it should be pretty interesting. But - the movie I’m most looking forward to is the Bourne Ultimatium.

Pirates 3 was AWESOME.

I was sorely dissapointed with Pirates of the Carribean 3, and I LOVE pirates! It seemed like nearly three hours of trailer footage: scene, after scene, after scene, after scene, abrupt ending. In my opinion, Pirates 3 was very poorly written with little plot cohesion, generic character archtypes, and bouts of desperately interjected “movie moments” made this high-grossing wasted effort walk the plank for me.
I’m biding my time until Oceans 13 and Transformers, but not holding my breath for either.

I agree with you Justin! I am wanting to see Oceans 13. I love how they somehow are managing to keep the original cast around. That is hard to do in many movies that have sequels.

Spiderman 3 was boring. I haven’t yet seen POtC:3 yet but every person I have talked to seems to agree that it was long, didn’t make a whole lot of sense, wasn’t cohesive whatsoever and had a stupid ending. I will download it but I definitely won’t pay to watch it. As far as Oceans 13 goes… I loved the first movie and the second was okay. I’m hoping that this movie isn’t worse than the second because typically sequels suck. I am excited to see Transformers but I don’t think it will be amazing or anything. Shrek? Who cares about Shrek? I won’t be watching that crap. The only movie I can say that I am really looking forward to is The Bourne Ultimatum. Even that doesn’t excite me too much. I think I’m jaded from watching too many movies. I download everything as soon as (or before) it comes out.

I forgot about Bourne Ultimatium. I love those movies. But still, another sequal. What happened to being original…

I want to see knocked up, ocean’s 13, and ratatouille … Saw Pirates and was thoroughly disappointed … it had some decent fight scenes, but compared to the original Pirates movie, the third just doesn’t even come close

not really looking forward to anything, all the big ones this summer are sequels—where is the originality? where is something new? Gah. Give me something new. New or another XMen

Why is it that movie tickets here in po-dunk little Evansville are $8.oo and big cities like New York are like $9.00 I think Paul Stieler is a little money hungry and we should support Stadium 16 instead of Showplace he is a greedy greedy man who doesn’t give a damn about family fun otherwise he would help families afford to go out on occassion! LOWER TICKET PRICES!!
