Hipster Alert: More Downtown Lofts Coming

If you’re like me and looking for somewhere to live around Evansville, there’s another option available downtown. Today Mayor Weinzapfel announced that the McCurdy Building down at the Evansville riverfront will be developed into 80 upscale apartments. This is a $7.2 million project that is part of the mayor’s downtown revitalization efforts.
Besides the apartments, there will be a retail area that will include two restaurants from the owner of downtown favorite Madeleine’s, Tim Mills. He plans to open a 1920s-era steakhouse as well as a Japanese hibachi bar.
The McCurdy Building, formerly the McCurdy Hotel, is now occupied by Riverwalk Communities, which provides adult day care among other health-related services. They will be moving to a new east side location by October 1.

That’s a great building! I’m glad to see they are doing something cool with it. It has a lot of character.

It’s great to see this wonderful building being redeveloped and put to good use, but when is someone going to some affordable housing down there?
