Prize Fight: Weinzapfel vs. Nixon

The results from the Republican Mayoral primary for Evansville are in and David Nixon (not Nix. Sorry Courier & Press) has defeated USI Student Aaron M. Ridlen by a fairly wide margin. Nixon will go on to face Mayor Weinzapfel in the fall. Nixon operates a non-profit business called “Young Gentlemen and Women” that advises businesses on how to get not-for-profit status and apply for grants.
In other primary news, turnout was incredibly low as predicted. Some precincts had as few as 20-40 people show up to vote. Talk about a long day.
Looking forward, here’s a question for readers. How much should I cover the November elections? Are you interested in hearing from the candidates on It’s Evansville? Let me know in the comments.

YES! More coverage by someone other than C&P would be great!
Justin,
Re: The November elections, I’d start by not chucking stones in a glass house. Calling out someone else for a spelling error is fine. Just make sure you get the correct spelling of such heavyweight words as “precincts” and “as” before you start calling others out.
Keep up the good work.
Tony
Justin,
When you ask if you should cover something, I am confused. It seems like you just post stories from other local news sources on this blog. So what do you mean by covering the race?
Tony, there is a difference between a spelling error and getting a mayoral candidate’s name wrong in an entire article. Besides, I am a single guy writing an entire site. How many people work at the paper?
Andy, I’m asking if I should bother to post stories about what goes on with the race, try to get interviews with candidates, etc. Is it something you care about enough to want me to cover it in-depth?
Justin,
Understood. I’ve enjoyed visiting your site every day. Accidents happen — and I’m sure this is also the case with the shot you took at the paper. I have no idea how many people work at the paper. Still, I’d make sure your own tail is covered in re: spelling before you start taking shots at others.
I come to this site every day because a friend sent me a link to it. It seems like an interesting business model — let others (the paper and the local television stations) do the hard work (the actual journalism) and then you link to them and sell advertising as you market yourself as a “Website about Evansville.”
If it works, it’s genius. And that’s why I posted what I did. Part of putting forth a professional effort is getting the spelling right. Potential advertisers will see you take a shot at someone else for a spelling error, then see that you screwed up the word “as” within the SAME story, and then move along with their ad dollars to somewhere else.
Keep up the good work.

Justin,
I won’t add onto what Tony said because he said it as well as I could. Again, I like the idea behind your site. If you mean that you plan to cover the election, I am all for it. I think additional coverage of politics from as many sources as possible is a good thing in any community. My question was genuine, so I hope you didn’t take it as otherwise.
I think some election coverage would be good. I like reading your site because you sift through the weeds of the other news sites and give us the best or at least most interesting bits. You also cover the new roller derby league, which is highly commendable!
Yes, please cover the elections and try to get interviews with the candidates, etc. I worked on election day, and we only had 20 walk-in voters at our precinct, and we usually have a higher than average turnout there. We also had 5 absentee voters, giving us 25 voters total.
